Report from Michaela and Wicky Wirschke:
In September 2006 my husband Wicky and me were lucky to join the Working-Guest-Program on Harnas for 4 weeks. Time was flying!
Every day on Harnas was very special and themed „Expect the unexpected“. Directly after our arrival we visited Zion, which we left in January being a cude 3 week old lionbaby. We were very curious to see him again!

Now he was 9 month old and obviously had picked up some weight..

Every morning started at 8.00 a.m. with a morning meeting, where we were informed about the daily priorities. After this every group prepared the food for "their" animals. Meat and fruits were cut into small pieces, grains and Pellets portioned and milk for the little ones filled into bottles.

After the feeding it was cleaning time in the camps and one volunteer went with Gino or Arno to do the feeding tour:

Until it was lunch time we enjoyed to play with the animals.

After lunch all the volonteers worked together in different projects:
Removal of ticks:

Building a waterhole in the cheetah camp:

Or going for a bush-walk with Frikkie wehere we learned a lot about nature:

In Epukiro we visited the school and the kindergarden:

The sheeps and goats had to be released from ticks as well and took a bath...
Walks with Zion, Trust and Pride were starting in the afternoon even if not all of them were eager to WALK:

On Sunday afternoon it was time for football - volunteers against Harnas.
Harnas knew how to take advantage - some four-legged players were not really fair players...:
One night we spend outside under the open sky:

Every day was filled with big and small experiences. And every day was at the same time exhausting and leaving us tired and dirty .
For us the stay on Harnas was an unforgettable experience.

All I wanted now,
was to get back to Africa.
I had not left it yet,
but when I awake at night
I was lying and listening full of homesick for it.«
