Harnas Animals star in a huge European film production

After the incredible success of the Zoo series over the last 5 years on German Television the German broadcasters ARD and SWR were looking for new and exciting projects. After traveling and searching through several projects over many months throughout Southern Africa the Harnas project was chosen as the new series to be filmed.

The teams started to arrive early in January for the 40 x 50 minute series production that will be screened from December 2011 on channels such as ARD, SWR and other stations of the ARD Network. An international version will also be produced and sold worldwide. The shooting time for the series will be over the next 10 months where filming data will be collected for the series.

The Harnas Wildlife Orphanage series is a co production of Cosmos Factory Film production, Vienna, Eikon Sudwest, Stuttgart and SWR (Sudwestdeutscher Rundfunk) in association with the Namibian Film Production Company Magic Touch Films.

During the series the crew will rotate and work in shifts on the project under the leadership of Dr. Harald Pokieser, Christian Drewing and Wolfgang Knoepfler. Mr. Wolfgang Knoefpler and his wife Edna Awaras are the owner’s of the Namibian based Magic Touch Films. They are Namibian Service producers and Associate producers and have been involved in many amazing projects all over Africa.

When Dr Harald Pokieser from Cosmos Factory Film Production contacted Mr. Knoepfler he immediately convinced Dr Pokieser that Namibia would be the perfect location for such a series. After negotiations, proposals and meetings the deal was signed and first steps planned. Mr. Knoepfler said that in his 25 years in the filming industry it was the fastest turn around from presenting an idea to getting it funded he has ever experienced.

During the series the Van der Merwe family, the volunteer project and above all else the spectacular animals will be followed and filmed daily. The series will build caracters between the animals and the people, their daily lives, experiences and growth and in this way communicate an amazing story of a life where you can only “expect the unexpected” The series will open yet another door to Europe and the world through tourism, voluntering and conservation in Namibia.
