Harnas Lifeline Project
Rehabilitation and release program
Harnas has a goal to be a sustainable nature reserve where specific species can be released.
The most comprehensive goal for the Life Line project is to create a balanced and safe environment of 8000 hectare, for all animals suitable for release, and to provide them the opportunity to adapt to their natural, wild surroundings. With the foundation of having this area working as a safety zone where the animals can live freely without human disturbance, will again contribute to the animals’ skill and instinct development. Here they will relearn to foresee dangers, read their surroundings and which predators are not to be challenged etc. The Life Line will be a soft release area and the last rehabilitation step towards release. If the animal manages to accomplish this final challenge, then we know there is a chance of survival in the wild. Should the animal that has been released fail, then we will bring it back to an area where we can take care of the animal once again until it is ready for a second chance at release.

The Life line is a place and a stepping stone for the Kings without kingdoms. However in order to provide the predators with a temporary kingdom it is a necessity to make sure that this area is stocked with the appropriate type and amount of prey species. Having enough prey for the animals to hunt is crucial to maintain a healthy eco-balance.
With a constant release we will be able to train the rehabilitated predators and prepare them thoroughly for what lies in the definition of ‘´The Wild”. And they will then be moved to other bigger game reserves or rented out to other lodge areas. We at Harnas will do our very best to make a difference and bring back that great numbers of released Lions, Cheetah and other species that once roamed the plains of Africa. This is the dream that we want to materialize, because we believe that it is better to save a few species than no one at all.
