Big cat interaction

Maybe you have seen photos of Harnas volunteers in close contact with lions, leopards and other big cats. It is important to remember that all baby animals grow up quickly and you cannot expect to always experience the same close contact! If at the time of your visit we have baby animals that need to be handraised we will for sure let you participate as much as possible. However it is totally against the Harnas philosophy to breed with big cats just to provide volunteers with “touchable” baby animals. This would create a large number of animals who have to be cared for and who would occupy the vital space for the real animals in need, which are brought to Harnas from all over Namibia. Besides this, breeding in captivity is forbidden by law. Last but not least – we care not only for our animals but also for you! That means that we will not create a potentially dangerous situation just to give you a “kick“ or a cool photo. No photo can be as cool as returning home to your family in sound condition!
