Overview:
Harnas Wildlife Foundation is an entity established originally for the protection of animals, but has grown to include welfare projects and nature conservation as a whole, as well as boasting quality and comfortable accommodation and hospitality services to support this claim.
Our care has therefore been split into two main categories namely (click on the links below to read more);
-
Harnas Nature network (A.R.K & Conservation Projects)
-
Harnas Social network (Cheeky Cheetah School & Development Projects)
The Harnas Nature network is the platform from which we do all nature and environmentally driven tasks and projects such as the A.R.K (animal research keeper), animal care, protection and rescue, nature research, release, establishment and upkeep of safe zones and the Wild Dog Project.
The Harnas Social network is there where any Harnas representative comes into contact with a non-representative person. Besides hospitality and the ever growing Voluntourist project, Harnas Wildlife Foundation also strives towards creating better lives for those who are from underprivileged communities. Projects include the Cheeky Cheetah School, Adult San skills development workshops and various outreach programs
Policies:
Policy on animals:
As our main concern is to conserve, Harnas Wildlife Foundation acts only when the alternative would be the demise of an animal because of human actions or interference. We do so by rescuing animals from dangerous situations and collecting animals from capture by external sources. We then give animals the ability to exist in an enclosure as near as possible to their natural and original environment and where and when possible, release animals on dedicated sites in Namibia.

Policy on environmental issues:
Aside from the obvious do-goodery of recycling on all the Harnas Wildlife Foundation locations, the ‘leave only tracks behind’ teaching to outings and using renewable resources when and where possible, Harnas Wildlife Foundation also supports initiative and the continuous development of new concepts to better care for our planet and all its many denizens big, small, digging, growing, photosynthesising or otherwise just being.
Policy on disadvantaged humans:
To truly strive for harmony means that one factor is not more important than another and human life and wellbeing and the conservation of cultural heritage is as important to us as any other. Harnas currently has different programmes running in support of disadvantaged people, especially those belonging to the ethnic groups that have direct connection to us due to specific demographic i.e. where they live, or employment by Harnas Wildlife Foundation.
Policy on hospitality:
Feeding animals is an expensive reality. In 1993 Harnas Wildlife Foundation opened its farm gates to the public for the first time. Since then Harnas Wildlife Foundation has strived to deliver the best service we can to our visitors, be they guest, working guest or even employee. Due to the nature of our business the safety of our visitors are paramount to our business and we take human animal interaction very serious. This interaction is controlled by Harnas Wildlife Foundation’s managerial group and implemented very thoroughly to ensure the safety of all our visitors.
As for our lodges and camping and any other accommodation, we believe in comfort, quality, privacy, hygiene and an overall positive experience.
